Govt attention drawn towards growing VAW

Lawmakers pledge a day's salary to flood victims The lawmakers further urged the government to heed the complaints of the people from Tarai region, saying that paddy transplantation was not completed in some districts for lack of irrigation. Furthermore, they urged the government to appoint 26 lawmakers to give full shape to the Constituent Assembly. The proposal tabled at the Parliament at today’s meeting as per the decision of the Business Advisory Committee was approved with unanimous votes. At today's zero hour of the Parliament, the lawmakers drew the attention of the government to expedite relief distribution for the landslide victims of Sindhupalchowk district and book the perpetrators involved in the violence against women. Meanwhile, the lawmakers provided their one day's salary as donation to the victims of landslides in Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha and Sankhuwasabha. Speaker Subash Nembang directed the government to inform the Parliament about the relief provided to landslide victims in Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha and Sankhuwasabha districts. He also called on the government for information on rescue of the landslide-affected families, and the drought seen in Tarai districts. Lawmakers who spoke at today’s session of the House blamed the government's passivity in providing relief to the victims and demanded that perpetrators be brought to justice, expressing concerns over the growing number of violence against women (VAW). A meeting of the Legislature-Parliament on Tuesday drew the government's attention towards the recent incidents of rape s perpetrated at various districts across the country.
